California’s wildland-urban interface rules (Chapter 7A of the California Building Code) require Class A roof assemblies in fire hazard severity zones, and the state applies its roofing rules throughout the State Responsibility Area whatever the zone’s rank. The zones are drawn from fuel, terrain and fire weather, not town lines, which is why the address lookup matters. Look your address up on the State Fire Marshal’s Fire Hazard Severity Zone page before you pick a material, or ask us to check it during the assessment.
California’s Energy Code places Santa Barbara, Goleta, Carpinteria and Montecito in building climate zone 6, together with Ventura, Oxnard and Camarillo. Ojai, Santa Paula, Westlake Village, Thousand Oaks ZIP codes 91358 to 91362 and the Woodland Hills, Tarzana and Encino area are in zone 9.
